I read a lot of good books, but it is not often I come across an incredible one. I have been recommending The Color of Our Sky to all of my friends and to anyone who will listen. I strongly recommend it for one of The Girly Book Club’s monthly reads. Deep, sad, heartwarming, hopeful, suspenseful, and honest – this book takes you on an emotional journey through each and every riveting page. I could not put it down.
The book jumps between the 1980s, 90s and present day from the perspectives of two Indian women – Mukta and Tara. Mukta has been born into a lower caste cult and is being forced to fulfill her duty to the Goddess by becoming a child prostitute. She manages to get away and joins Tara’s upper middle class family as a servant – and has the opportunity for a caring family and an education. One night Mukta is kidnapped, and Tara is distraught. Tara moves with her father to Los Angeles, and many years pass. Eleven years late Tara returns to India to search for Mukta.
Their intertwining story of love, heartbreak, despair and friendship will touch your heart and have you caring deeply about both of these women and the outcomes of their lives.
Please read this book; it’s amazing!
The concept is simple. We’re a global book club for likeminded women to discuss great books! All members of the book club read the same book over the same period; members then meet up in their respective cities at the end of each month to discuss the book and exchange views.
