I must confess that this book was very difficult for me. Getting through the first chapter was like wading through the ocean current with rubber boots on! The first chapter is pedantic and so very slow. However, if you can get to chapter 3 or 4, things start to come together, the characters start to emerge.
This book tells the tale of the Plumb family. It tells the story of the family’s ability or inability to deal with each other and their eccentricities. The family suffers from greed, loneliness, alienation and every other ailment that some families go through. One does find themselves disliking some of the characters for their deceit, their immaturity and overall lack of depth. In that respect, the author has achieved the goal of engaging the reader. The book is worth reading, but as I said not my favourite. I will be interested to know what others think of it.
