Let’s all be honest, we love watching TV and movie starts in the news especially during award season when we are entertained with the Golden Globes, Emmy’s, and Oscars to name a few. When the celebrities step out of their limo’s onto the red carpet we all “Ooh” and “Ahh” at their outfits. What we may not pay as close attention to is the people behind the stars-the ones who dress, style, and prepare the stars for their big nights. This is that story…
Amber Green is working at a high end clothing shop in London when Mona Armstrong, stylist to the stars, strolls in and offers Amber a position as her temporary assistant during awards season. What follows is essentially a series of bizarre and unfortunate events sprinkled with humor as Amber navigates LA life with her over the top, and frequently missing, new boss and the stars that come with the job. From drama with designers and dresses to more personal dramas of navigating romance, Amber is instantly relatable as a fish out of water in a very glamorous setting.
I found this book to be very entertaining both in the description of what occurs behind the scenes, but also in the author’s characters that really make the book. While the book is, I admit a bit frothy and predictable, it is a perfect beach read in that it is widely entertaining and light. Any book that features a tiny pig is worth taking the time read.
The concept is simple. We’re a global book club for likeminded women to discuss great books! All members of the book club read the same book over the same period; members then meet up in their respective cities at the end of each month to discuss the book and exchange views.
